We're Here...

Well, I'm kicked off of Facebook because I tried to log in here at the hotel and it needs me to verify my account to know it's really me logging in. The problem is that I can't remember the first name of the first boy that I kissed which leads me to some questions.

Question 1: Who set that as the security question?
Question 2: Why do I have such a bad memory and can't remember that boy's name? Question 3: Why did I let friends convince me that it was funny to pretend marry someone and kiss him when I was in first grade?

And back to question 1!

So, I'm kicked off FB for who knows how long. Either until I remember the little boys name (mom, do you know?) or until I have the time to figure out what happens if I never remember.

So...on to blogging.
We made it to Tampa, FL last night.

Thankfully our flight was not full last night and so the kids moved around a bit and H&G had two seats to spread out over. Once we landed she said "I had fun on the airplane mom. I love it!" She repeated this over and over and over for the next hour and a half.

She's also been repeating the phrases:
I'm tired.
I'm hungry.
I have a headache.

I'm not sure if she is just hearing them from us or trying them out or is legitimately these things but it makes me concerned when she keeps repeating the headache and tired phrases. I asked her the other day, "where does it hurt" and she really did point to a spot on the back of her head. I gave her some Tylenol just in case.

Back to Tampa. We are staying in a place that is NOT kid-friendly. I would guess that in a 10 block strip there are about 8 tattoo parlors, 12 (gay) bars, 5 adult boutiques, and so on. Let's just say that there is not a lot of exploring going on around here.

We've explained to the kids that this is not a vacation and that we are here because these people need Jesus. The older kids are old enough to see that this is true and understand what we are saying. It's been great to have these conversations with the kids and while I'm praying constantly for their visual and spiritual protection, I think this is good for them to experience and process with us. I guess this is an issue that could really be debated (and had been with many more conservative Christians) and I could go into more detail about my philosophy regarding them experiencing this trip with us, but I'm going to leave it at that for now.

At the end of the strip is a church that is doing some amazing things in this community. It's exciting to hear about their work, see the results, and know the stories. The article in the link is from 2009 and it's my understanding that there has been tremendous growth since then. I have such great respect for the leaders and ministers and volunteers of this ministry and their dedication to joining God at work in this community where it seems so hopeless.

Quiet Day

I currently have a sleeping baby in the house, a toddler who is ready for a nap, a 9 year old whose imagination leads to scattered messes all around, and a 12 year old who would be thrilled to go from video game to computer to tv and back to video game.

Today is a quiet day.

Over the last month or so things have really changed around here. I started watching a baby (about 9 weeks old) 2 days a week and working away from home 3 days a week. I still do part-time work for IV and still work one night a week at the dance studio. It's kind of crazy.

The hardest part though is that Management is gone every week for several days at a time. Trying to figure everything out without his help is quite difficult!

But for now, it's working OK. Not great, not good, but OK.

We're hoping for it to eventually work out great or to have things cut back in the near future. Not really sure if that means having H&G go to daycare 2 days a week (which I know she would love because she is so social and intelligent) or having someone come here 2 days a week, or having to eventually get back to me being home with her all 5 days. Not sure.

For now, we are taking it week by week.

This week we actually are leaving for a conference in Tampa. It's been a little stressful trying to plan for all of us to go. The kids are upset they are missing school (yes, I took their temperatures!), things at work are super busy, and there is very very little time to pack. However, I know once we get down there, it will be so worth it! Taking time to regroup, relax, and enjoy some family time will be great! Also, and the reason we are actually going, seeing daddy at work will be great for the kids. It's important for them to see and experience what it is that dad does on all of these many trips. It's exciting for them to see people excited about the Lord and to see lives changing! I'm very excited about the conference and especially for the times of worship.

Christmas 2011

Happy New Year!!

I can't believe it is 2012!?!?!?

We had a great Christmas, Christmas break, and New Year! Here are a few highlights:

Christmas Eve - WeeklyAd and I went downtown to see Wicked! It was G.R.E.A.T! She loved it, I loved it, it was very cool. So glad we went! Afterwards we met at my sister's house for dinner and to get our traditional gift of pajamas from my dad. This is one of the kids favorite things and this year WeeklyAd even packed her snuggy and slippers so she could change into her new pajamas and wear them home.

Christmas - We had a great morning other than the fact that HomeAudio had been up sick through the night and still wasn't feeling well. He's struggled with anxiety off and on for many years and for some reason it really hit him full force Christmas Eve. I felt so bad for him! He was able to open some gifts but by the time we made it to my parents' house for lunch he was ready to collapse into bed. He stayed up in bed for the remainder of the day. :(

Christmas Break - we pretty much stayed up late, slept in, and had pajama day just about every day. Management took the week off too so we spent a lot of time just relaxing, regrouping, and having great family time. We did go on our annual "painting pottery" outing and this year H&G joined us. It was a lot of fun!

New Years: We had plans for some friends to come over but we ended up with bad colds and a bad migraine. It worked out well though for us to just be home and ringing in the new year together.

New Year's Day: spent the day cleaning like a mad woman! Got the house deep cleaned and all laundry done and caught up. We also put up a toddler bed in WeelyAd's room so that H&G could move in with her temporarily while my mother-in-law came to stay with us for a few weeks off and on. I've been working more and more away from home so my mother-in-law has agreed to come and watch H&G for us while I'm gone. It helps her too as the winter is long and lonely for her when she is home.

And FYI - H&G got an m&m ornament from New York because she potty-trained this year with the help of m&m's. :) WeelyAd got a snowflake ornament with a quote about being unique and special. It's really really pretty! They all loved their ornaments this year!
