"Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn." Romans 12:15
It's so easy to rejoice with friends! It's fun to celebrate and smile and laugh and share good times and encourage them during happy times.
But we live in a broken, sinful world and because of that there are times of mourning too. And it truly truly truly stinks!
And I'm just going to stop right here and preface this post by saying that nothing I say here is going to do justice to this situation. Nothing will let you know how hard or sad or loving or treasured or anything this last year, this last week, this family, this man, has been. I can't even put into words my own grief and there is absolutely no way I can even fathom what my friend votemom and her family are going through.
But I have to write about it.
Because they are extremely dear to me and Management. Votemom's husband B is a great friend to Management and I love votemom like my sister and her children like my nephews and nieces. They are family. And we've been trying to encourage them and pray with them and lift them up during this part of life. To put it nicely, the sucky part. The time to mourn with those who mourn.
Last January I posted this -
"I have such a heavy heart. There is so much sadness and devastation around and at times it is completely suffocating! All I can do today is pray and trust the Lord and lean on His promises and that is what I am trying to do. Such devastating, life changing news yesterday!"
It was the day after the devastation in Haiti but I was secretly talking about votemom's family. Her husband, B, was diagnosed with cancer that day.

After a year of treatments, faithfulness to their Lord, and a testimony to others that is absolutely incredible - full of prayer, faith, wisdom, grace, compassion, evangelism, and so much more - B went home to be with Jesus last Friday night.
Let me tell you a few things about B that have been coming to my mind this weekend...
1. He was a top executive at Ford which meant he was extremely busy and had days full of meetings, phone calls, e-mails, etc. but B had a passion for adoption (TheShortOnes are his daughters, adopted from Russia). He would take the time to send us encouraging e-mails throughout our process and was quick to share our excitement and let us know he was praying for us!
2. He had a great, hearty laugh that was very contagious. He would kind of crinkle his nose while laughing and for some reason that is the one thing that I keep remembering. I would love to have a picture of him laughing!
3. He was a very generous man! Very passionate about helping people and very action oriented. I know he loves ideas but I think even more than that, he loved having a plan and taking action steps.
4. He LOVED loved loved his family! He and votemom are in a small group with us and when it was time for prayer requests, he wouldn't just share a request, he would give us an update (with sparkling eyes) on each of his 5 kids. He was so proud of them!
There is so much more...but you just simply can not put all the goodness of someone's life into words.
To say he will be dearly missed is, of course, a huge understatement! He is extremely loved and respected by so many many people. It's amazing! And such a testimony of how one man can influence so many! I've said that he was proud of his family...well I know they are truly proud of him too!
Thank you for praying for votemom and her family. I know details have been lacking but some, if not all, of you were faithful in praying for her despite not knowing why she needed your prayers and I know she is so thankful for that! Please continue to pray for her and her 5 children and their extended families! There is just no easy way to walk through these next several days, months, or years.
But the good news is that they are not alone! Nor do they even have to walk...Christ can carry them and votemom says that He has been. And He is faithful and good and promises so much. I know they are resting in Him and trusting in Him and holding tight to Luke 1:37 "For no word from God will ever fail.”
Amen.
