At It Again

I think I just needed some therapy.

And some fun.

So I took on another decorating project.

Painting is therapy to me.

Decorating is fun for me.

And our guest room needed a serious makeover!

Seriously!

It was the worst, most uninspired, nastiest guest room ever!

And we really do host quite a few guests.

In fact Management's supervisor is coming into town next week and will be staying with us.

After that, Management's mom will be coming to stay.

And then Grace will be coming.

So it needed some attention.

I'm not quite finished but this will give you an idea.

From ugly white dirty walls...

To Orange, Brown, and Beige (you know I can't ever choose just one color!)

The pictures don't do it justice (afterall they were taken with my cell phone) but I LOVE it!! And the more it comes together, the more I love it!

I'll try to post more (and better) pictures when it is all finished.

Exciting Times

Where to begin???

Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of time but I did want to update all of you on some exciting things that are happening...

1. Although a meeting wasn't possible due to conflicting schedules, Management has been in contact with LifeWay regarding the publication of a second book. Of course that alone makes us over the moon but there is more. World Vision is interested as well in a second book and so Lord willing, the two (World Vision and LifeWay) will partner together in publishing and marketing Management's latest project. AND, even more...LifeWay has tentatively booked Management as a speaker at one of their conferences next year.

ONE LAST THING: please don't comment or post about this information on Facebook. It is still in the very early stages of planning/organizing and we just don't want the information on Facebook for all to see. Thanks!

I would just like to reiterate that we are in no way leaving InterVarsity! We adore IV and truly believe God has called us into ministry with IV and to reaching the college campus. The opportunity with LifeWay/World Vision would be complementary to our current ministry and would truly be a partnership in continuing the work that God has called us to and would open new doors and avenues for raising awareness about Social Justice Issues and Evangelistic Opportunities.

There are so many other exciting things to share but I'm already out of time. My mom and I are taking the kids downtown to see 101 Dalmations: The Musical. I think I've shared how much I enjoy theater and really want my kids to enjoy it too. I have been blessed with tickets to many many many shows and I cherish the memories (except CATS, I wasn't too crazy about that one) and hope my kids will too.

The Dotted Line

I signed the dotted line.

A 30-36 month commitment.

Now I am officially OLD.

I can't believe my baby is getting braces!

He's old enough for othodontics.

I am really old!

And broke.

But boy do I love his orthodontist.

We hit the jackpot in my opinion.

And I love that HomeAudio will be getting help.

So I am happy!

But seriously, a kid in braces!?

sigh, I feel so old!

Spice Up Your Life

I came downstairs yesterday to find a very intense SpiceSmellingContest going on in the kitchen. It lasted about 15 minutes, engaged the entire family, and ended with a Grand Winner -

drumroll please....

Tarragon!
with Basil being a close second.

Man alive we are a strange family!

We've also been watching our Thanksgiving Tree grow.

I heard about this tradition last year but never did get it going so I was so happy that someone reminded me of it this year. The kids and I made a trip to The Teacher's Store to purchase the leaves and then anxiously began growing our tree.

And boy is it growing! It's been really fun for our family to participate in this and I often find the kids reading and re-reading the things on the leaves.

I'm excited to see how full it is on Thanksgiving Day!

22 Poops

I failed to mention in my last post that Rhys and I had quite the poopy moment together while I was there visiting him. Here it all is in his momma's words...

"Last Sunday, Dave was fairly alarmed when I told him that Rhys hadn’t had a bowel movement since the previous Thursday. “Well, how many does he usually have a day?” I began to calculate…let’s see, 3 every hour, carry the 2, minus the 1… “about 6- 8 a day,” I said. With his booming voice he said, 'Grace! That means he’s 22 poops behind! Call his Doctor!'

I always hate to bug our pediatricians on weekends knowing they are trying to enjoy their free time and their families, yet they are on call. I had done a few minutes research on the internet & found that infant constipation is fairly normal, especially after introducing formula. I had just introduced a daily dose of 2 oz. formula last Wednesday since Rhys is still not back at up to his original birth weight of 9 lbs. 7 oz.

So, the Doc says that we need to stick up a lubricated q-tip up his anus to stimulate his bowels. What on earth?!?! I’d never heard of such a thing, and certainly never had to do this with Ransom.

Good thing “J” was over. “J” is better known as “targetshopper” in the blogging world. “J” & I have been best friends since 1988. If your keeping count that’s 21 years!

I guess it takes a friend of 21 years to do what I’m about to describe…

J used to work in a pediatricians office & knows what she’s doing. When she volunteered to do the honors, I was all game.

First she instructed me to get the child naked. Naturally, thinking something would be going into my child’s butt hole I got him naked and set him face down on the changing pad.

Wrong.

Besides a screaming baby, we would have had a much bigger mess.

Naturally, I was worried the q-tip would come off & get stuck in his butt, so I grabbed one of those hemroid cream inserter thingys.

Wrong.

Dave & J scoffed at my idea saying it wouldn’t go in far enough.

Some say to use a thermometer but since ours is electronic, I didn’t want to risk not being able to wash it off properly.

Dave came out with one of Ransom’s q-tips. The kind for toddlers with the big bulge on the end to protect them from sticking it in their ears too far.

Wrong.

There was no way I was going to allow that giant tip to go in and not come back out.

Finally, we all 3 agreed that we should just use a normal size q-tip… until we realized we didn’t have any. ay ay ay. Dave took one of the toddler q-tips and cut off the big bulge part. J lubed it up with vaseline & turned Rhys over on his back with a diaper underneath him. She said there was potential for it to, ahem, “blast out.”

As we got started, nothing was happening. I told J I thought she should stick the q-tip in farther.

Wrong.

Dave said to me, “she can’t stick it in there any farther, he doesn’t have that much space to begin with. Jeez.”

Well. Excuuuuuuuse me. How on earth am I supposed to know how far up an infants butt to stick a q-tip in order to procure a poop coming out? The whole thing felt so un-natural.

After a few minutes, Rhys started grunting, looking around, and growing calmer and calmer until he was completely still. And then with one big push, it started oozing out with the consistency and color of Grey Poupon Dijon Mustard.

Any one hungry for a Sandwhich?

After that a few things happened in rapid succession:

1. Dave muttered something about hearing Ransom call for him, who, might I add, was in bed at the time and neither J nor I heard him.

2. I took one good look at it oozing out and suddenly felt oddly disgusted & began to gag, throw up in my mouth and run out of the room heading for water.

3. Rhys took one big sigh of relief and promptly fell asleep.

All of this left J in the room by herself doing our dirty work. Oops.

Naturally, when I came back in I grabbed my camera. Naturally. Just in time to see my little man slide into a dreamy peaceful sleepy state.

Sometimes, getting a “number 2″ out just feels nice, huh Reesey-Bear?

Oh, the ADVENTURE of parenting!"

I guess that's what friends are for.

An Exciting Day

Pretty much about 15 minutes after Management arrived home from his trip last night I hopped in the car and drove to Grace's house. I miss Management but this was the ideal weekend to get away and FINALLY meet little Rhys. And not only did I get to meet him, I got to spend some good quality time with him at 5:30 this morning. It was wonderful!

And then I spent most of the day doing this...

Boy did that baby gets lots of snuggles and kisses from his Aunt Targetshopper! And when I wasn't snuggling little Rhys, I took his big brother Ransom out for lunch and to pick out a birthday present. We had so much fun!!

I have had a great day with Grace and the boys! I'm just so glad that I was able to come and am thankful to my family for allowing mommy some time away, especially HomeAudio who was extra emotional about having me away.

Okay, back to snuggling. I have to soak in this newborn while I can.

Halloween Project

I am hopelessly addicted to Ace of Cakes and The Food Network Challenge! My poor children watch more cake shows than they do cartoons and we have been wanting to try to make our own fondant covered cake for awhile.

I was inspired by MckMama's blog post about the Rainbow Cake. She left pretty good instructions so we decided to give it a go. Now you know that my "give it a go" usually ends in disaster but I'm always willing to at least try.

WeeklyAd and I mixed the cakes and colors. One cake mix was turned orange and one was turned black before baking.

Then we cut each cake into two, layered an orange and black together with frosting in between and froze the two cakes overnight. The next morning we stacked it all together and frosted the entire top and sides of cake.

Once it was all frosted, we began working on the fondant. We kneaded it all out, split it up, added food coloring, and kneaded some more.

Then we rolled it out, put some on the cake, and left the rest for the kids to cut out shapes and be creative. And creative they were. WeeklyAd made some food and pumpkins while HomeAudio made plates, silverware, and spiders. We just had so much fun!

And here is our finished product~

And here are the kids in their costumes...

Good News/Bad News

Good News...everything came back from the doctor and it looks like I am the epitome of health. I survived another physical and can breathe a sigh of relief. I am already feeling a bit better and know that once I start exercising again I will feel even better.

Bad News...though I feel better, I am officially losing my mind! I feel like I can barely stay on top of things and despite having a some-what organized, positive week with the kids and their homework, this week has not started off well. Last night alone I carted my entire family (Management included) to an appointment that didn't exist (it's next week), left my purse at a restaurant for over 3 hours before I even noticed, and packed the kids lunches only to have them bring them home today and announce that they had hot lunch. ugh!

Seriously, 4th grade and 2nd grade are challenging but when you add everything else that I'm responsible for, they are just down right difficult. HomeAudio has 5 tests this week alone. We spend much of our week doing homework, studying, or organizing our weeks ahead. Management and I both have multiple meetings every week and life is just much more chaotic than either of us desires or likes. Thankfully the kids are doing very well and LOVE school so it does make it pretty easy to engage them in things that need to be accomplished.

I had a GREAT mini-escape last week as I went to the zoo with JJ, VoteMom, and TheShortOnes (VoteMom's daughters that I've adopted as nieces).

We had so.much.fun!! It was just what the doctor ordered!

I'm hoping to get away this weekend too so that I can go and meet Rhys and spend some time with Grace. Praying that it works out!

We had a great Halloween and worked on a special Halloween project. As soon as my sister e-mails the pictures I will share the project with you...and pictures of costumes too.

Any guesses on what the kids were this year?
