Abundant

We have never really had an abundance of money. I know riches is very relative and some could argue that we have an abundant amount of money but I guess that the point that I'm getting at is that we have never been totally carefree when it comes to money. I guess most people aren't. Oh for goodness sakes, I'm not making my point very well here.

To be honest, when I found out that I wasn't going to be watching LittleMiss anymore I did not have a very Godly attitude. I'm ashamed to admit that it was a very ugly response. I was pretty mad at the Lord really and sat on my front porch with such anger. Yes I knew that He would take care of us and would provide for us, and I knew that we had so much to be thankful for, but to be honest, I was just so mad.

I was angry because there I sat, one year later, no further ahead.

I was right back where I was last summer...jobless, penny-pinching, babyless, relying on Him, and waiting waiting waiting. Why can't we just get ahead a little in something Lord!? I felt so helpless and hopeless and frustrated.

And yes we could argue that we are ahead in some things and we could argue that we are way better off than some and we could argue that my attitude stinks...and all of that would be true. We could also argue that I obviously am not much further ahead spiritually either since I had such a negative response...I don't think that is true. At least I hope that is not true. I think I just had a little set back. A temper tantrum really.

I heard a message once where the person said that God has given to His children abundantly. Of course He doesn't always give money. He gives time abundantly, He gives wisdom abundantly, He gives spiritual gifts abundantly, He gives and gives and gives. The person said that we need to figure out what God has given to us and we need to share that abundance with others.

We've already (somewhat) established that we do not have an abundance of money (or positive reactions to bad news apparently), but God has certainly given to us abundantly! He is so good and so faithful and has given so much! And so much is so undeserved! Yet, He still gives. And even when He just gives Himself, that is the best gift of all. His love, His peace, His comfort, His attributes....His ear to listen. His mercy and compassion.

But beyond just Himself, God has abundantly given me FRIENDS. I truly have the greatest friends! Just today I got a beautiful and touching hand-made card from my best friend Grace and I got a very thoughtful and encouraging e-mail from my friend S. I am given abundant encouragement through my friends, abundant joy, abundant laughter, and I am blessed.

I would love to share my abundance of friends! As much as I want to count them and hoard them and save them and bank them for a rainy day, that would be selfish.

So...

In an attempt to get out of my funk and to take on the challenge of sharing abundantly, I'm going to try to come up with a way of sharing my friends.

Hmmmm....

Stay tuned.

And in the meantime let me know what you think God has given abundantly to you or your family. Don't be afraid to answer honestly. Sometimes we are afraid to say money or faith or other things but those are tremendous gifts from God and need to be celebrated just as much as anything else. Don't you think? And I promise not to throw a temper tantrum if you say money and I won't challenge you to give it to me either! ;p

Productive

Despite my desire to be lazy, productivity has somehow creeped in.

I forgot to tell you all that we were WAY ahead on the painting and actually finished the 6 rooms in 4, yes 4, days! That would have been impossible but my dad had some unexpected time to jump in and help me and we conquered the project together. I've been there a few times since with my camera but keep forgetting to take pictures. I'll try to remember some time this week.

I f.i.n.a.l.l.y cleaned out WeeklyAd's closet. The poor girl (who just turned 7 remember) still had sizes 3, 4, and 5's folded on her shelf and hanging in her closet. Just awful, I know. It was such a chore trying to find a place to hang the size 6's (which actually fit her) anywhere but the task of going through all of those clothes just seemed so daunting. In actuality, it only took about 2 hours.

School shopping is done! The kids are all set with supplies, clothes, shoes, belts, socks, backpacks, and hairbows (for WeeklyAd of course). All we need is a haircut for HomeAudio (or else he will be able to wear the hairbows) and we are ready. Well, they are ready. I am not ready. I could use another month or so of summer myself!

WeeklyAd

"your baby can't even be measured or registered on the growth chart" the doctor said. "up until now she was in the 5th percentile but now she has simply fallen off the chart."

That was not good news as I laid on the examination table at only 31 weeks along in my pregnancy. What in the world were they going to do now? It had been 6 weeks of bed-rest and doctors appointments and monitoring movement and fearing the unknown and now things seemed worse than ever for this tiny baby.

He continued, "go on home and I will call you this afternoon with our plan."

The afternoon came and so did a phone call with a plan to have an amniocentesis the following week and then an early delivery. This plan of waiting was frightening as I knew the risk of death was very high for my malnourished, intrauterine growth restriction, unborn baby. But it was also a good plan as my husband was 6 hours away at a camp and wasn't due home for a couple more days.

Later that night as I slept on my parent's couch, I awoke to a horrendous crick in my neck. It didn't take long for me to realize that it was more than just a symptom of bad pillows or an unfortunate sleeping position. It was a symptom of my liver. I knew my liver enzymes were rising and I had to go in. I went in to wake my mom and we formed our own little plan.

We headed for the hospital around 5:30 that morning unbeknownst to my almost 3 year old who stayed home sleeping with grandpa. Though extremely uncomfortable and dreading the 40 minute trip to the hospital, I ate a small piece of McDonald's biscuit that my mom bought me in an attempt to make me feel better and to help ease the long day at the hospital that she saw coming.

It didn't take long for the doctors to diagnose H.E.L.L.P.Syndrome (the same thing that I had with my previous pregnancy). The original plan of waiting a week and doing an amniocentesis was thrown out the window and they began planning for immediate delivery.

But there was a problem. Remember the tiny bit of McDonald's biscuit that I ate? The doctors were not too happy about that because it meant that I had to wait 6 hours before going into surgery!

6 hours? Coincidence? I don't know.

But I know it gave my husband, who was 6 hours away, time to get to the hospital to be with me as I delivered our 2# 10 oz. baby girl. (He actually made the trip in about 4 hours doing 90 mph. but we won't talk about that)

As I think about August 22, 2002 I remember those dreaded words from the doctor and I remember eating a Quizno sub while my almost 3 year old (HomeAudio) napped and I waited for the call with the plan of action. I remember talking to my husband and telling him that he didn't have to come home quite yet. I remember uncertainty and nervousness and praying that the Lord would sustain our baby longer and develop her lungs further.

August 23, 2002 I remember the relief in knowing that our baby would be born and the waiting and fretting would be over. I remember seeing my husband walk through the hospital door and I remember waking up after delivery and seeing HomeAudio by my bedside with my family. I remember seeing a picture of my adorable baby girl and I remember them telling me that though I couldn't see her for 24 hours, she was thriving and her lungs were almost perfect. I remember a lot of answered prayers!

It was a joyous day full of answered prayers! Plans changed and precious memories were made and WeeklyAd entered our lives and has filled us with great joy ever since!

I can't believe that it has been 7 years! I grow more and more in love with this little girl everyday and she continues to be a true shining star in our lives!

Happy 7th Birthday WeeklyAd!

Day 3

or is it day 4? I've lost track!

Today we finished the family room with the original color. My mom decided to live with the color for awhile before making any other decisions. When all was said and done, I think she liked it afterall.

In other news, I bit the dust and started back-to-school shopping. I'm having a mixture of panic attacks and excitement about the new school year. So far the panic outweighs the excitement but hopefully the more prepared we get the better I will feel.

Okay, we are down to 2 rooms in 3 days.

Painting

P - painting,
A - apprehensively on a 2nd story ladder,
I - in flip flops, is
N - not a great idea!
T - though
I - I did
N - nearly finish the
G - green family room.

Well, not really nearly finished.
I finished one wall.
a huge wall mind you.
with a vaulted ceiling.
hence, the 2nd story ladder.

But then I had to quit and boy am I glad that I did quit because now my mom is changing her mind on the color. sigh. She's done this to me before. In a different house. I still have nightmares of the time that my dad and I painted a family room not one, not two, but three different cranberry colors. oh my mother. gotta love her.

And I can't blame her because I too once had my 2 story foyer and hallway painted a nasty, fleshy, peachy color only to realize that it was absolutely awful and needed to be re-done. immediately! That awful color still haunts me.

Maybe fickle paint choices run in the family?

We are now at 3 rooms to go in 4 days.

HomeAudio sold out of his products in about 3 hours at the Dream Cruise and made a whopping $95. He easily could have doubled his money had he bought more products but instead he took what he made, divided it up into giving.investing.saving.spending and took the spending money straight to....Target of course. We are targetshoppers you know!

The movie is called Open Water 2: Adrift. Again, I do not recommend this movie AT ALL.

While I am jobless, my parents have asked me to help them paint their home. After seeing Julie & Julia in which she gives herself the 525 (or something) recipes in 365 days challenge, I will now title this segment 6 rooms in 7 days challenge. That's right, kitchen.foyer.upstairs hallway.living room.dining room.family room all in 7 days. Today, after 11 hours of painting, I am happy to say that despite my swollen ankles (did I mention they don't have AC) we completed the kitchen and 99% of the foyer and upstairs hallway! whew! Thank you mom and dad for helping because I would never have finished that all in a day! We all worked our tails off.

If you don't hear from me much this week then you know why. I am either painting or dead or somewhere in between with crippled up fingers and arms that refuse to move.

But oh how I love painting! To see a finished product with clean walls and a fresh scent and a room ready to be decorated...Love it! And to have their entire first floor done and beautiful will just be wonderful!

Movie Madness

It's been a couple of weeks without LittleMiss around here and she is still dearly missed. I'm thankful that she only lives three doors down and we are still able to see her and hug her and love on her. Things are already in the works for another little one this fall but I don't have all of the details yet.

We have about 3 1/2 weeks until school starts up again. I'm s.l.o.w.l.y getting in the back-to-school mode. Both kids have grown significantly this summer so clothes shopping a must. We are still working on collecting bugs for the big 4th Grade Insect Project. My freezer has about 6 or 7 but we need 25...yikes. We better go hiking next week.

Management and I watched a movie last night about some people who jumped in the ocean and then realized that they hadn't put the ladder down in order to get back onto the yacht. I immediately tried to problem solve and came up with an idea that Management said would never work. I was so frustrated through the whole movie as one by one the characters died through failed attempts and panic. All the while I'm yelling at them to try my idea! And all the while Management is telling me that my idea was a bad one. Well apparently if I am ever stuck in the ocean next to a yacht without a ladder then I will know how to get back on because 2 hours later, after 4 of the 6 characters died, the final 2 tried my idea and it worked!! Stupid movie! And yes, Management did finally see the brilliance in my plan...and apologize.

Tomorrow is the Annual Dream Cruise. HomeAudio will set up shop with his water bottles and hopes to make as much money as he did last year. We'll see. I won't be able to be there with him as I will be in an all day leadership retreat at the school. I'm secretly thankful that I won't be there though as it's supposed to be a HOT one. Sure hope my retreat is indoors!

S, I was thinking about you as you were in the hospital last year during the Dream Cruise. I'm so grateful for you and so glad that you recovered completely and are home and well this summer!

Stay Cool and Enjoy the Weekend!

Today

Today

I

Pretty

Much

Did

Nothing...

It's Day 8 of illness for HomeAudio.

Poor Guy!

Day 3 of illness for WeeklyAd.

She acts fine but has a low-grade fever.

I guess I did a few things today...
I went to the library to get the kids some movies
I baked some low-carb/whole wheat biscuits
I did a very much needed load of laundry
I went to a meeting
I visited with some neighbors

But overall it was a very low key day.

Home

We're HOME...home sweet home.

Boy what a week. It was a good week with some great times and some not so great times (a very elderly couple heavily making out in the pool was at the top of the not so great times). Surprisingly the 1,000 miles in the car (all 1,000 were within MI and some of Ohio) were not so bad at all. Despite doing it the old fashioned way, which means no dvd player, we had a great time listening to music, looking at old pictures, sleeping, and talking.

I was finally able to get HomeAudio into a clinic this morning (a very cool clinic inside of a grocery store - why don't we have this here??? It was fantastic!) and he was diagnosed with hand, foot, and mouth. Poor guy!! He is in so much pain and just generally miserable! WeeklyAd came down with a fever this afternoon too but says that nothing hurts so that is a bit of a mystery.

HomeAudio discovered that the craft that we sent into Webkinz (ages ago!!) is now the featured craft on Crafty Critterz! He was SO excited! It only took....who knows how long for them to post it. It's just exciting that they did post it!! And it's the feature craft. So cool. By the way, you may remember me writing about it before? It was the egg carton flower garden.

Looking back through Myspace in an attempt to see when exactly we did send in the craft, I realized how much I miss Myspace. I was such a better blogger then. I miss the creativity in Myspace, the colored fonts, the highlighting affects, the paragraphs, etc. Does anyone else feel that way?? Anybody else missing Myspace? I may have to just switch back to Xanga or something?? I don't know.

Mary Poppins

A couple of months ago, soon after school ended, I started feeling very discontent and stir-crazy and anxious and just really wanted to go somewhere...anywhere! A very nice perk of all of Management's travels is hotel/flight rewards and so I looked into the possibility of using some points to get away for a few days. My goal was to take the kids to see "Broadway's Perfectly Magical Musical", Mary Poppins. I love theater and art and I really want my kids to experience it and love it too.

It was showing in Chicago and various other cities but alas, arrangements could not be made. Though we had hotel and transportation covered, the tickets and dining were still too much. I put it out of my mind and moved on with our summer.

Fast forward a couple of months and Management invites us along to Cleveland where he will be giving his 8 hour seminar and preaching at a local church. Knowing that I would have the whole day on Saturday to do something with the kids, I googled some ideas. You guessed it, Mary Poppins was going to be in town. I couldn't believe it! I had completely forgotten about the Musical's tour and the fact that they would be in Cleveland! What are the chances??? And can you believe that through a personal gift of a very sweet and generous donor, we were able to purchase tickets!

I still can't believe it! I know it is a "little" thing that is far from a "need" at this time, but I just can't tell you what this meant to me for the Lord to work this all together. I am just amazed! Truly!

Here are some pictures from our adventure~

And afterwards we met up with Management for dinner and told him all about it~
